Soweto, Johannesburg & Apartheid Museum Tour Itinerary
Tour Starts
- Pick up at hotel or arranged point.
- Stop at the Constitutional Hill for a guided tour. The complex is a former prison that bears testament to South Africa’s turbulent past.
- After the Constitutional Hill tour we drive to the city centre of Johannesburg via the Nelson Mandela bridge which is the largest cable bridge in South Africa.
- We drive through Johannesburg and see landmarks like Bree Street taxi rank, Reserve Bank, Johannesburg Library, City Hall and Carlton Centre.
- After the city tour we proceed to Soweto and make our first stop at the Welcome to Soweto sign for photos.
- Our next stop for photos is at the Orlando Towers, one of the landmarks of Soweto.
- Stop at the Hector Pieterson Museum. Here we stop for a briefing about the 1976 Soweto students uprising. We only do the memorial site as the information inside the museum is repeated at the Apartheid Museum.
- Our next stop is Mandela House Museum for a full guided tour.
- Enjoy lunch at one of the restaurants in Vilakazi Street in Soweto or at the Apartheid Museum restaurant.
- After lunch we drive out of Vilakazi Street to our last stop the Apartheid Museum.
- Apartheid Museum tour. The tour guide will give you an orientation and a museum brochure to make it easy for guests to navigate the museum with ease. Note that the museum is big.
- At the end of the tour you will be driven back to your drop off point after having a busy and informative day.
